James Labrie is a Canadian singer and songwriter, best known as the lead singer of American band Dream Theater, which he has been fronting since 1991. He has recently released his new solo album “Beautiful Shade of Grey.” The single “Devil in Drag” is new this week on RadiJohan.

Flashback

On 26 May 1974 “Sugar Baby Love” was the number one song in the UK. It was the debut single of the Rubettes, a bunch of session musicians who were offered the song by songwriters Wayne Bickerton and Tony Waddington on condition that they would become an actual group. The Rubettes went on to have a string of hits but Sugar Baby Love would be their only No.1. It also reached No. 1 in Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Austria, Belgium and Australia, and No. 2 in South Africa.

Dirt Does Dylan

Nitty Gritty Dirt Bandis an American country rock band formed in 1966. Their 1970 cover version of “Mr. Bojangles” is perhaps their most well known and enduring success worldwide. This week they return with a new album “Dirt Does Dylan.” “I Shall be Released” from Nitty Gritty Dirt Band is new this week on RadiJohan and also features American roots rock band Larkin Poe.

New Blues

Larry McCray is an American blues guitarist and singer who has shared the stage with has played and shared the stage with such blues greats as BB King, Buddy Guy, Albert King, John Mayall, Johnny Winter, Robert Cray, Keb Mo, Jimmie Vaughan and others. Larry has just released “Blues Without You,” his first album in seven years. The topical single “Breaking News” is new this week on RadiJohan.

New from a former Eagle

American musician, singer, and songwriter Timothy B. Schmit has formerly been the bassist and vocalist for Poco and Eagles, having replaced bassist and vocalist Randy Meisner in both cases. Schmit has also worked for decades as a session musician and solo artist. In 1998, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Eagles. His new solo album “Day by Day” is out now. The single “Simple Man” is new this week on RadiJohan.
