The Big Moon

“The Big Moon” are an English band formed in 2014. The four piece have recently released their third album Here s Everything. Their single, Trouble, looks at motherhood and its impact on life. The band’s lead singer, Juliette Jackson, comments:

“‘Trouble’ is about remembering walking over the railway bridge to the hospital to give birth. This is a bridge I cross every day, but somehow in my memory on that day it’s like a bridge over a canyon in a technicolour Wizard of Oz jungle landscape. Like giant leaves and blurry edges and oversaturated colours. But it’s just a pissy graffiti-covered South London pedestrian bridge. And it’s about learning that memories aren’t always right, and you don’t have to hang on to them and be traumatised by them forever.”

“New” Queen

Queen have released a previously unreleased song with the legendary Freddie Mercury on lead vocals. Face It Alone was recorded during the sessions for Queen’s 1989 album The Miracle. The track had been forgotten about but was rediscovered when the band returned to the sessions as part of a reissue box-set for the album due to be released in November. Guitarist Brian May said that they found the “little gem” kind of hiding in plain sight. He explained:

“We looked at it many times and thought, oh no, we can’t really rescue that. But in fact, we went in there again and our wonderful engineering team went, ‘OK, we can do this and this.’ It’s like kind of stitching bits together. But it’s beautiful, it’s touching.”

The presence of Freddie is without doubt the song’s main attraction. Face It Alone is new this week on Radijohan.

New music from Queensrÿche

“Queensrÿche” have released their new album Digital Noise Alliance. Outside of the Hard Rock/Heavy Metal genre the American band, formed in 1980, are no doubt best remembered for their 1990 hit ballad Silent Lucidity. There’s a ballad on the new album too. Queensrÿche states:

The ballad of the album, ‘Forest’ embodies the sorrow of losing a loved one, trying to cope with such a profound loss, while occasionally feeling that person’s presence around you and asking for a sign.  It is a topic very relatable to people, as we will all at some point experience the great loss of a parent, child, sibling, spouse, or dear friend.

KT Tunstall

Scottish singer-songwriter “KT Tunstall” has recently released her seventh studio album Nut. It’s the third album of a trilogy which explores the Body, Soul, and Mind. The album’s first single, Private Eyes, recounts a surreal celebrity encounter at a party early in Tunstall’s career.

Early on after my big success, I would dip my toe into accepting invites to random parties. At one party in a little club in Soho, London, a beautiful actress – who I didn’t know personally – in a big puffball gown, grabbed my hand and pulled me down the stairs into the basement kitchen in a panic. She was terrified of the paparazzi stalking her outside – she couldn’t face them,” Tunstall shares. “Mascara was running down her face as she had a meltdown on the floor. I had to break it to her, there was no door down here; the only way out was back up. But I remember through my own boozy haze how tragic it seemed that this person had so craved a life that had now felt like a prison. Beautiful eyes that didn’t want everyone looking into them.
