CHVRCHES Release New Single

Synthpop band CHVRCHES probably need little introduction in 2023. The three band members settled on the name CHVRCHES, using the Roman letter “v” instead of a “u”. This spelling was chosen to differentiate themselves from actual churches in online search results.

The band have been around for more than a decade and have released four studio albums in that time. The latest, 2021’s Screen Violence topped the album chart in their native Scotland and featured the single How Not To Drown which spent three weeks at number one on RadiJohan’s Top 10.

This week CHVRCHES return with their first new single in over a year. In a press release the band shared:

“’Over’ is a song that we wrote with Oscar Holter, a producer we really respect and admire. Normally we collect songs over the course of months (or years!) until we have an album’s worth of material, but this time we just wanted to release something we were excited about and give the fans something new to mark the end of the ‘Screen Violence’ era, and the start of whatever the next CHVRCHES chapter might be.”

Love Never Dies and Ska Lives

The Interrupters are an American ska-punk band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 2011. They have released four studio albums. RadiJohan has previously featured a few of their singles including the excellent Gave You Everything which rose to number 1 on the RadiJohan Top 10 in 2019.

The interrupters’ latest single, Love Never Dies, which features English band “The Skints,” is new this week on RadiJohan.

Are You a People Pleaser Too?

Cat Burns is a 21 year old British singer and songwriter who went from busking to mastering Tik Tok in lockdown, singing a mix of her favourite covers and original music. As a result, she rapidly amassed a large following. One of her original songs, Go, went viral and ultimately rose to number two on the UK singles chart. She cites Ed Sheeran, India Arie and Tori Kelly as a few of her biggest inspirations.

The lyrics of Cat Burns’ current single, People Pleaser, detailing her troubles with communication and confrontation, will no doubt resonate with many people.

We hope that you’ll be pleased that People Pleaser is new this week on RadiJohan.

Introducing Lady Blackbird

A few years ago “Lady Blackbird” (aka Marley Munroe) burst onto the Jazz scene. When she was a child her parents listened to artists like Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, Kool and the Gang and gospel singers like Andraé Crouch. When her mother realized Marley could sing she used to follow her around with a tape recorder. She has kept all the tapes of her as a small child singing and reciting various songs and nursery rhymes.

Marley got her start by performing at family gatherings, church, funerals, weddings, fairs and even sports events. At age 12 she traveled back and forth to Nashville after signing with a Christian record label and, as a teenager, she toured the U.S. performing in arenas with Toby Mac from “DC Talk.”

Before starting her career as Lady Blackbird, Marley Munroe explored other musical styles, eventually finding her Jazz-tinged calling as Lady Blackbird. Her debut single, Blackbird, a cover of a 1963 song by Nina Simone about the struggles of being a black woman, was released in May 2020. Her 2021 debut album, Black Acid Soul, received many 5 star reviews and she recently won ‘International Artist of the Year’ at the “Jazz FM Awards.”

Lady Blackbird’s latest single release, Woman, is new this week on RadiJohan.

Introducing Polish Progressive Rock Band Riverside

“Riverside” was formed almost by accident when two of its members listened to the band “Marillion” on a car stereo back in 2001. The friends both played in heavy metal bands at the time but had a common interest for progressive rock. They decided to get together with another mutual friend, who owned a studio, to start experimenting with progressive rock.

Friend or Foe?‘ is Riverside’s new single from their latest album, ID.Identity, the band’s 8th studio album. Riverside’s Mariusz Duda commented:

One of its strong points is the lyrics which talk about how we’re perceived by others, especially these days, when pretending to be someone you’re not on social media has become the norm. Can we still be ourselves or do we have to keep adapting to the requirements of new algorithms? Perhaps we’ve already lost our identities and we’re only waiting for instructions from a Siri or Alexa?
