{"id":2894,"date":"2023-07-12T07:38:34","date_gmt":"2023-07-11T19:38:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.radijohan.com\/?p=2894"},"modified":"2023-07-12T07:39:38","modified_gmt":"2023-07-11T19:39:38","slug":"from-a-jingle-to-number-one","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.radijohan.com\/?p=2894","title":{"rendered":"From Jingle to Number One"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This week in 1971 Radio stations started running a Coke commercial called <em>I&#8217;d Like To Buy The World A Coke<\/em>, sung by &#8220;The Hillside Singers.&#8221; Advertising agency McCann Erickson had produced the\u00a0jingle\u00a0for\u00a0Coca-Cola and had wanted\u00a0&#8220;The New Seekers&#8221; to\u00a0sing it, but that group could not fit the project into their schedule and turned it down. The jingle was also used as a TV commercial showing young people from around the world singing on a hillside. Because of the popularity of the commercial the lyrics were re-written as <em>I&#8217;d Like To Teach The World To Sing<\/em>. &#8220;The Hillside Singers&#8221; recording of the full song hit number 13 on the\u00a0Billboard\u00a0Hot 100. This convinced &#8220;The New Seekers&#8221; to record the song as well.
